IBM has announced the launch of the latest ultra-high capacity LTO-8 Ultrium tape format. With up to 30TB compressed storage capacity, LTO-8 doubles the previous generation LTO-7 Ultrium systems. In addition, LTO-8 full height drives provide a 20% increase in data transfer speeds. LTO-8 Ultrium drives will be available in standalone desktop format, such as the TS2280 - as well as drive modules to increase capacity of existing IBM libraries TS4300, TS4500, TS3310, TS3200 and TS3100.
